Alex and Maridel returned to the province after years. In the kitchen, where her grandmother, Odeng, spent hours slaving away to cook for the family, the pair thought of cooking Humba, reminiscing about their time with her. Leaping between past and present, Alex recalled the first time meeting Odeng as a child, unfamiliar with everything new around her: new people, new surroundings, and a new language that she couldn’t understand.
