PARAPO follows the haunting journey of a young boy aboard a jeepney, sharing the cramped space with various Filipino passengers, each representing different, often grim, realities of life in the Philippines. As the vehicle pushes forward, so too does the boy’s exposure to the darkness around him: poverty, violence, indifference. Despite it all, he remains eerily unaffected, as if numb to the chaos. But as the journey grows more intense, fear begins to sleep in. In a moment of desperation, he cries out “Parapo!”, the signal to stop. He bolts from the jeepney, running for what he believes is freedom. But the question lingers: did he escape, or is it just another illusion of choice?
